First HD studio of SWR trusts in mc²66.

Compact studio in Baden-Baden produces with Lawo console.

In January 2007, German broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (SWR) in Baden-Baden started operating the first TV production studio within the ARD Public Broadcasters Association using HD technology. SWR’s 'Compact Studio' is used mainly for providing contributions to daily programmes. Also ‘EinsPlus’, the digital service programme of the ARD, is produced here.

The new compact HDTV studio comprises of a video- and an audio control room linked with two small production studios: Studio A, equipped with conventional furniture elements, and Studio B with virtual backgrounds. In the audio control room a mc²66 is used which can be also used for 5.1 surround sound production.

The SWR ‘Compact Studio’ has been installed on the premises of the former presenter studios and analogue control rooms. With this renovation, the SWR is the first broadcaster within the ARD who invested in a HD production studio.

The Südwestrundfunk decided on a mc²66 as all necessary system components, like routing matrix, AD- and D/A-converter, monitoring and other types of converters, are standard features of this console. Therefore, the customer was convinced not only by the technical features of the system but also by the cost-effectiveness of this integrated solution.

Although the mc²66 console fits into a compact 8-8-8 frame, it offers full functionality. Due to its layer structure the sound engineer has quick access to all channels. The DSP capacity can be extended any time. Another pluspoint: Lawo provides an external access to the system for maintenance purposes.
